Belly Of The Beast

“Belly Of The Beast”, a collection of collaborative photography works by Max McClure and Zachary Saitoti.

“The Belly Of The Beast” was held at The Tobacco Factory, Bristol and reflects both artists’ continued exploration of static ‘empty’ scenes..

This video documents the randomly evolving canvas I created for the opening night of the exhibition, using the artists photos.

3 different layers are composed from a bank of pictures, a few things are manipulated – hue, contrast, saturation and a mirror effect to make some cool symmetrical images. Additive blending created some interesting new textures and I added a bit of movement by simply panning around the image. I was also providing the music for the evening, so I made some sound reactive ‘blocks’, shine through the brightest parts of a photo.

Very simple and quickly put together, but the outcome worked well in the space and created an atmosphere in the room that reflected the photography. Hoping to explore this further and particularly work with Zac & Max again.

The music is ‘Open Mirror’ by Eleven Tigers. It’s from the blinding debut ‘Clouds are Mountains’ out on Soul Motive and you can buy it right now:
